As FDA doesn’t seem to be ready right now, I launched this project to create collaboratively an open-access set of guidelines that pharma companies could use for free and personalize for their own needs and preferences. I believe we (medical professionals and patients) have to know how the pharma sector do use and should not use social media and vice versa.
Let’s get together and please let me know if you would like to contribute to that. Webicina.com is happy to host the platform on which we can create this guide.
Scope: This is "the key principles in a manifesto type document" which can be the overview for Pharma to follow. This should not be technology specific but should be just the main principles (protect patients, keep healthcare professionals informed, be transparent, report the Adverse Events you see, follow applicable codes and regulations, etc).
The proposed timeline:
1) Announcement and first links collected (end of June): DONE
2) Adding negative and positive examples about pharma use of social media to each platform from Twitter to Facebook (end of July): DONE
3) Putting together the first versions of core principles (early December): The first version is published as PDF:

4) Collecting feedback and comments.
